The leading men do some serious excavations of their pasts, and there's no turn-on like a man doing emotional work. Yes, I wondered what I'd be like if I were a Brown sister!).ĭid I mention the books are HOT? There's a scene of public intimacy in Get a Life, Chloe Brown that I still haven't recovered from. They're from a wealthy, quirky family in London (and do different things with their trust funds. I love seeing how they all respond to their upbringing. They're incredibly distinct and yet so obviously related. Three Brown sisters-Chloe, Dani, and Eve-are a hoot. There's no laziness to be found-and yet it also doesn't seem like she's trying, because the books are so readable. Familiar.Īnother thing about about the language. It reminds me of.walking into a cafe and hearing your friend's voice cutting through the crowd. There's something about the warmth in her writing. Where can I begin? I'm in a listicle mood, so these are all the reasons I'm in love with Talia Hibbert's books. But it was midnight and if I shouted, my whole family would be mad at me. I just began reading the third book in Talia Hibbert's Brown Sisters series and was overwhelmed by the need to shout about how brilliant she was to the world. Hi all! Long time lurker, first time poster.

Ultimately, her views and active campaigns were deemed a threat to the ideals of the Revolutionary government and she was arrested, during what became known as the Reign of Terror. De Gouges also wrote plays – performed by her own theatre company – calling for an end to slavery and raising awareness of social issues. Here she bravely drew attention to the fact that, while the French Revolution called for liberty and freedom, this did not apply to women. She wrote prolifically about this, most famously in her Declaration of the Rights of Woman and the Female Citizen (1791). Olympe de Gouges believed women should have the same rights as men – a revolutionary idea at the time. Here she began formulating her ideas and campaigning for a more equal society. Instead, she moved to Paris where she reinvented herself and adopted the name ‘Olympe de Gouges’. When her husband died a year later, she chose not to remarry. As a young woman of 16, she was forced into an arranged marriage by her family. Olympe de Gouges (1748 – 1793) was born Marie Gouze, in southern France. 5/30/2023 0 Comments King of chaos by eva ashwoodShould be simple, right?Yeah, you?d think so. The prequel helped get me into the world of summoning and even explained in perfect detail everything you would need to know about the magic, I would highly recommend reading the prequel before starting this series, although it is not required. Then I flipped it over and read the blurb and as soon as I finished I knew this book was going to be something amazing, after returning home and doing a little research into the series (and avoiding spoilers like they were the plague!) I found out there was a prequel called Origins, so before I started The Novice I read the 102 page prequel and I was so glad I did. I’ll be honest, I first picked up this book because of the cover, with an awesome blue glowing background, symbols, a guy with an awesome coat armed to the teeth with weapons and marks on his hand which are producing a ball of magic, how could I not pick it up and have a look? 5/30/2023 0 Comments Slither by John Halkinpeople started to forget.but Matt knew different. the experts dismissed them as no more dangerous than ferrets. "The Tell-Tale Heart" is often considered a classic of the Gothic fiction genre and is one of Poe's best known short stories. The story was first published in James Russell Lowell's The Pioneer in January 1843. Ultimately, the narrator's actions result in hearing a thumping sound, which the narrator interprets as the dead man's beating heart. The narrator emphasizes the careful calculation of the murder, attempting the perfect crime, complete with dismembering the body in the bathtub and hiding it under the floorboards. The victim was an old man with a filmy pale blue "vulture-eye", as the narrator calls it. It is related by an unnamed narrator who endeavors to convince the reader of the narrator's sanity while simultaneously describing a murder the narrator committed. Today we need to wrap it up by following the landed gentry in their gradual realization that black slavery could not only meet their labor demands, but also assuage class tensions between landless whites and the landed gentry. Friday’s discussion on why early in the seventeenth century many blacks enjoyed the same freedoms as other Virginians went well as did our discussion of the challenges of managing a growing and increasingly discontented population of indentured servants. Today in class we finish up reading a selection from historian Edmund Morgan on the evolution of slavery in Virginia. |
